Giving to CMAS
Born out of the activism of the civil rights movement, the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) was established in June 1970, with Professor Américo Paredes as one of its principal founders and first director. CMAS is a unit within the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
The mission of CMAS is to serve Texas and the nation as a leader in the intellectual development of Mexican American Studies. The establishment of CMAS represents an institutional recognition of the importance of the Mexican American people in the history, culture, and society of the United States.
Faculty and students affiliated with CMAS have worked to enhance our understanding of the cultural, educational, political, and social dimensions of the Mexican American experience, as well as the broader Latino experience, and to strengthen the presence of Mexican Americans and other Latinos in the intellectual terrain, both within and beyond US borders.
Based on our mission and record of achievement, CMAS directors and faculty affiliates have developed a strategic plan that identifies three priority items in need of support:
- Undergraduate Scholarships
- Faculty Development
- Public Programming
We welcome the opportunity to meet with individuals who would like to learn more about CMAS. Please contact Dr. John Morán González, CMAS Director, at (512) 471-8358 or firstname.lastname@example.org, to discuss how you can become a valued supporter of the Center for Mexican American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin.
How to Give
Supporting CMAS can be done in a variety of ways. You can participate in UT’s Annual Giving campaign; consider making a planned gift; or offering an outright gift. These giving programs often carry special tax incentives and can support the development of an endowment. Please visit the development and alumni relations website for the College of Liberal Arts for more information. If you do consider making a gift, please indicate that you are supporting the Center for Mexican American Studies.
The College of Liberal Arts has established the Dean’s Circle giving society for supporters who wish to make an unrestricted gift that can be directed to a specific program or initiative. Dean’s Circle members can participate at various gift levels and are invited to a number of special events hosted by the College of Liberal Arts. You may contact (512) 232-5606 or email@example.com for more information. If you do consider become a member of the Dean’s Circle, please indicate that you are supporting the Center for Mexican American Studies.
