CMAS Announces New Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellow

Isabel Millán, Ph.D., is a recipient of the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies for the 2013-2014 academic year. This postdoctoral fellowship is supported by the Office of the President at The University of Texas at Austin and hosted by the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS).

Dr. Millán received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in American Culture with a certificate in Latina/o Studies from the University of Michigan in 2013. She holds an MA in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University, and a BA in Anthropology and Women’s Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests include queer bilingual children’s cultural productions across the Americas, with an emphasis on Canada, the U.S., and México.

While in residence at CMAS, Dr. Millán will complete her book manuscript based on her dissertation, (Play)Grounds for Dismissal: Niñas Raras in Transborder Children’s Cultural Studies.

Dr. Millán will teach one undergraduate course and give a public lecture on her research in the spring semester 2014.
