CMAS Announces Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellows Lecture

The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) will host the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellows Lecture on March 27, 2014. The lecture will begin at 4:00 pm and be held in the Eastwoods Room (UNB 2.102) of the Texas Union. The lecture will feature presentations by Monica Muñoz Martinez and Isabel Millán.
Monica Muñoz Martinez, Ph.D. is a recipient of the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies for the 2012-2014 academic years. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the American Studies Program at Yale University in 2012. The title of her presentation is "Too Far Decomposed: Visual Legacies of Anti-Mexican Violence."
Isabel Millán, Ph.D. is a recipient of the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies for the 2013-2014 academic year. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in American Culture with a certificate in Latina/o Studies from the University of Michigan in 2013. The title of her presentation is "Comics and the Latina Fictionalization of Spider-Girl."
The Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies was created by CMAS, with the generous support of the Office of the President at The University of Texas at Austin, in memory of Professor Carlos E. Castañeda (1896-1958), one of the first scholars and activists in Mexican American studies, and a UT Austin alumnus and faculty member.
