Jefferson Center Essay Contest Winners Announced

Mon, May 12, 2014

The Thomas Jefferson Center is pleased and proud to announce that the winner of our first annual essay contest is sophomore Carson White, for her essay on Homer's Odyssey entitled "Odysseus' Inner Conflict." Though there were many fine submissions, the prize committee was especially impressed with the clarity of Ms. White's writing and with how thoughtfully she presented Odysseus' wrestling with his doubts about the gods' justice. Ms. White will receive a $200 prize for her submission.

The runner-up, and winner of a $100 prize, is Ethan Levinton for his excellent essay comparing Aristotle's Ethics and the Book of Qohelet on the relationship of virtue and happiness.

Congratulations to the winners and to all who participated!
