Middle School Students visit UT Austin for Panel About College with INSPIRE Leadership Students
INSPIRE Panel for Middle School students at UT Austin

On Saturday morning, April 8, 2017, the women of INSPIRE met on the UT campus with a group of forty-eight students and teachers from two Title 1, 95%+ economically disadvantaged, 90%+ Latinx middle schools from San Antonio. These students are part of The Empowered Young Womyn organization that teach gender equality and issues that stem from race and gender in their communities/schools/world, and practice service and leadership in school.

Senior cohort facilitator, Jenni Sapio, moderated a panel of six INSPIRE students as they spoke about choosing a major, what their career goals are, and why having a college degree in their field will benefit them. They also fielded questions on financial aid, social opportunities in college, dating, and preparing for college.

Members of the panel include Samantha Farmer, Harmony Smith, Ashley Berry, Brandilyn Monene, Jessica Wu, and Lauren Fussell. Also present were facilitators Briana Barner, Rebecca Woo, and Amanda Grey and INSPIRE coordinator, Nancy Ewert. Other INSPIRE students present include Brooke Quauch, Lizeth Perez, and Madeline Hoadley.

After the panel, INSPIRE students gave a guided tour of the campus.
