The deadline for the WGS Masters Programs has passed. The admissions committee will meet in January and February. We hope to have admission decisions out by mid-March 2010. If you are still interested in applying, the next deadline will be December 15, 2010 for the Fall 2011 cohort.

Alissa Sherry, Ph.D has been appointed associate director of the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS). Dr. Sherry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology. She teaches primarily in the doctoral counseling psychology program. Her areas of interest are in identity development, particularly LGBT identity and intersections between sexuality and other aspects of diversity (race, SES, religion, etc).

Susan Heinzelman, Associate Professor of English at The University of Texas at Austin, has been appointed director of the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS). Building the center’s teaching and research strengths has been a high priority for Heinzelman, who served as the center’s interim director last year. During the next four years, she will help the center remain competitive with the best women’s and gender studies programs in the nation by pursuing a range of funding opportunities. “Under the visionary leadership of past directors, the Center for Women's and Gender Studies has become an essential part of the university's research and teaching mission,” Heinzelman said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to build on the work of these talented women and to advance the center's reputation for academic excellence.”

What is the Richards Scholars Endowment Fund? Women's Resources continues to pursue its vision of providing valuable education and travel/study opportunities to Texas women leaders who seek to improve their leadership skills and expand their knowledge of the diverse issues, dynamics and cultures that impact the State of Texas through the Leadership Texas program. In keeping with our vision and purpose, the Richards Scholarship Endowment Fund was established to fund scholarships for educators from public and private schools and community colleges to participate in Leadership Texas.

This degree program is offered by the Center for Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) and the LBJ School (LBJ) at the University of Texas at Austin. The Dual Degree Program responds to an increased need in the public, nonprofit and private sectors for specialists who have advanced training in policy analysis and leadership and management skills, as well a comprehensive understanding of women's and gender issues. Applicants for the Dual Degree Program must meet the general admission criteria of the Graduate School and the admission criteria for both the LBJ School and the Center for Women's and Gender Studies.
