John Fry

With the Dog Star as My Witness is John Fry’s first full-length poetry collection, set to be published by Orison Books in 2018. A finalist for the 2017 Orison Poetry Prize, Fry’s poems are organized around canonical prayer hours to “wrestle with theological and deeply personal concerns in language that is wrenched almost to breaking, but which holds after all and forms a tapestry of (sometimes tortured) prayer.” The manuscript has also been a finalist for Tupelo Press’s Dorset Prize and the Nightboat Poetry Prize.

John Fry is a graduate student and Assistant Instructor for the UT Department of English. He specializes in Middle English Literature and Contemporary Poetry and Poetics. Some of his previously published work can be read in The Offending Adam, in Switchback, in Boxcar Poetry Review, in Jam Tarts, and in Tupelo Quarterly
