Dr. Jayme Walenta Named 2017 Faculty Sustainability Champion
.

Congratulations to Dr. Jayme Walenta for receiving the 2017 Faculty Sustainability Champion award from the Office of Sustainability at Texas A&M University.

“These awards, one each for faculty, student and staff, are presented to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary effort, dedication, and leadership throughout the year in fostering a campus culture of sustainability. Dr. Jayme Walenta advanced sustainability at TAMU by using the campus as a Living Laboratory for the Department of Geography’s capstone class. The course was designed to allow students to immerse themselves in real issues of sustainability and the environment using an experiential learning approach. Under Dr. Walenta’s leadership, her students made an impact in the classroom that has extended into daily campus operations and the community. Dr. Walenta championed sustainability while training the next generation to embrace sustainability.”

Dr. Walenta teaches Sustainability Studies courses for the department; her current research examines the forged compatibility of economic growth and environmental protection as it relates to the business response to climate change.
