Huaiyin Li (Ph.D., UCLA) is Professor of Modern Chinese History at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of Village Governance in North China, 1874-1936 (Stanford, 2005), Village China under Socialism and Reform: A Micro-History, 1948-2008 (Stanford, 2009; winner of three book awards), and Reinventing Modern China: Imagination and Authenticity in Chinese Historical Writing (Hawaii, 2012). He is currently working on a book project, tentatively entitled: "China Before the Rise: Maoist Economy and Politics Revisited."
