I study modern Latin America with a specialization in Brazil. I am interested in the history of race, rural inequality, public policy, and the environment in Brazil. My dissertation explores the historical emergence of the Quilombo Movement in the Atlantic Rainforest of São Paulo. I serve as Public History Editor for Not Even Past. I am the founder and editor of Jorge Washington: Current Affairs and Pop Culture in the Américas.
