UEX Internship Course

Why take the UEX course?

This course is designed for interns who prefer not to pay the full summer tuition for a comparable university course (particularly students who pay out-of-state or international tuition rates) and whose employers require credit to participate in the internship, though the student does not need credit for her degree plan.

In the fall and spring, this course is designed for students who do not have access to a credit course but whose employers require credit for the internship.

Course Credit

This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis. The credit awarded is UT Austin Liberal Arts elective credit through University Extension (UEX). Transfer of credit is solely at the discretion of your home institution.

UT Austin Students: This course does not count towards in-residency credit; however, it does count towards your in-residence GPA. For degree and credit-related questions, please speak with your academic advisor.

International Students: Please visit your academic and international advisors to discuss your eligibility for CPT and any issues around the limited number of internships you may be able to complete while on a student visa in relation to your degree and required credits.

Course Description

UEX credit internship courses are web-based course designed to complement your internship experience. Assignments will be completed each week and uploaded to our online course site, Canvas. Course communications are also managed via Canvas by email.

UEX LA 110wb Credit Internship Course, Fall & Spring: 110wb is a lower-division one-credit course with weekly assignments: journals, a resume, evaluations and a final paper.

UEX LA 320wb Credit Internship Course, Fall, Spring & Summer: 320wb is an upper-division three-credit course with a larger vareity of assignments compared to LA 110wb. UEX internship courses can be repeated in different semesters/summer sessions in conjunction with new/different internships. In addition, you can register for a UEX internship course more than once in a given semester or during the summer in conjunction with separate internships (i.e., if you have more than one internship, you can enroll in the course more than once in conjunction with different internships).

When approved, students can withdraw from the course at any time before the last class day with no recorded grade (pass or fail). For example, a medical withdrawal with medical documentation will result in a course cancellation rather than incomplete fail grade. If you leave the internship before the end date; are let go from the site; or fail to complete the required number of hours, you will automatically fail the internship course. If the employer lets you go for reasons beyond your control, you will not automatically fail this course; we will work with you in such cases. An incompletion of the internship course is not eligible for a refund of course-related fees.
