Class of 2006
Becky Perry graduated with High Honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Plan II, government, and philosophy. A recipient of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, Becky spent her final semester studying Mandarin and international relations in Shanghai. While in China she reported about one-child policy practices in rural Anhui province for World magazine, a national newsweekly.
Becky is now a third-year student at Yale Law School. She has developed an interest in federal criminal prosecution after working in the Bangalore office of International Justice Mission (a non-governmental organization that prosecutes bonded labor offenses in south India) and the Bridgeport U.S. Attorney's Office (the branch that prosecutes human trafficking offenses in Connecticut). She is currently the president of the Yale Federalist Society chapter and a book reviews and features editor for the Yale Law Journal.
Following her law school graduation in May 2010, Becky will clerk for Judge Richard Sullivan on the Southern District of New York and Judge José Cabranes on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She hopes to return to Texas to pursue a career as a federal prosecutor with a focus on human trafficking crime.
Becky enjoys baking chocolate sheet cake and watching Texas football. She remains sincerely grateful for the academic opportunities made possible by the Dedman Scholarship. "The privilege of participating in the community of Dedman Scholars at The University of Texas," she says, "both enriched my undergraduate experience and inspired me to pursue further education." For that she offers her humble and wholehearted thanks.
