NSF Dissertation Grant to Doctoral Student Lynn Hou

The National Science Foundation has just awarded Lynn Hou a doctoral dissertation research improvement grant in the amount of $15,107. The title of her project is "Sign Language Development and Socialization in a Chatino Village." In her dissertation, Ms. Hou is investigating how deaf and hearing signing children are acquiring and developing a village sign language in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Professor Richard P. Meier is her dissertation advisor.

Ms. Hou has also recently been awarded a three-year predoctoral fellowship from the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders).
