LLILAS Benson Statement on DACA

In response to the decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), we at LLILAS Benson affirm our support for immigrant students, scholars, workers, and their families, all of whom contribute in immeasurable ways to our society, and whose lives and labor, aspirations and dreams, are inextricably interwoven with those of their US-born peers.

We stand with all members of the University of Texas at Austin community whose lives will be touched by this decision. Most especially, we offer our support to those who feel afraid for their future in this country, and we hold fast to a vision of equality and justice for immigrants of all ages and all walks of life.

We echo the words of UT Austin president Greg Fenves: “At the University of Texas we are defined and elevated by our students.” Nowhere does this statement feel more true than here at LLILAS Benson. We, in turn, will continue to elevate our immigrant students and peers, honoring their diverse origins and vital presence on our campus and in our lives.
