This course is an intensive introduction to Nahuatl, a language spoken today by close to 1.5 million people in Mexico. Nahuatl was also the language of the Mexica, the Tlaxcalteca and of many other Mesoamerican peoples from northern Mexico to the southern coast of Nicaragua. Students will develop conversational skills and the ability to read both colonial and modern documents. The class will meet on MT for 1:30 hours and WTH for one hour. Additionally, students will be required to sign up for a one hour two-to-one practice session with the instructor.The class wil be taught in Nahuatl except when clarifications are needed.
