Visiting Professorships

Visiting professorships provide the opportunity for scholars from Latin America and U.S. Latin Americanists to visit our campus and teach in scholarly areas of priority in the LLILAS program.

Fellowship Competitions

Since 2011, LLILAS has partnered with the world-renowned Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection to offer opportunities for scholarly research. Through our collaboration as LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections, we sponsor fellowship competitions for a variety of beneficiaries. Some of these are offered with U.S. academics in mind while others are geared toward scholars in Latin America. In the past, LLILAS has sponsored fellowships in conjunction with other units on campus, such as the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center and the Blanton Museum of Art.

LLILAS Benson currently hosts the following fellowship competitions:

  • Estancias cortas para Investigación LLILAS Benson
  • Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) and Community Colleges Research Travel Fellowships

Visiting Scholars

Due to the outstanding Benson Latin American Collection and the large and distinguished Latin Americanist faculty affiliated with the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS), many scholars choose to spend sabbatical or other research leave at The University of Texas at Austin. To accommodate these researchers, LLILAS offers Visiting Scholar and Research Fellow programs. Visiting Scholars and Research Fellows do not receive a stipend, nor is tenure or continuation at UT Austin implied. LLILAS does provide office space for these visitors.

Programs under the Visiting Scholar category are: Visiting Researchers/Scholars, Research Fellows, Visiting Resource Professors (VRPs).
