Fall 2017 MALS Graduate Portfolio Symposium

Fri, September 22, 2017 | Gordon-White Building Multi-Purpose Room | GWB 2.206 | The University of Texas at Austin

1:00 PM

The Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies has implemented a change in the requirements for the Graduate Portfolio Program in Mexican American and Latina/o Studies. Effective the Fall Semester 2017, MALS will be hosting an afternoon symposium that will replace the individual portfolio pláticas that we previously scheduled. The MALS Graduate Portfolio Symposium will be held in the fall and then in the spring, allowing participating students to present their research topics in a 20 minute talk followed by a question and answer period. The goal of the symposium is to maximize the audience for all portfolio students as they present their research to the University community. Two students are participating in the fall symposium:

Brianna L. Figueroa
"Ballet Hispanico: Constructing Latinx Identity Through Concert Dance"
Doctoral Candidate, Department of Theatre and Dance (Performance as Public Practice)
Rebecca Rossen, Associate Professor, Department of Theatre and Dance (Supervisor)

José G. Villagran
"The Texas-Michigan Farmworker Circuit: An Ethnographic Revisiting of the 'Midwest Stream'"
Doctoral Candidate, Department of Anthropology
Martha Menchaca, Professor, Department of Anthropology (Supervisor)
