Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Motivation for naval service as a commissioned officer
  • No moral obligations or personal convictions that prevent conscientious bearing of arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic
  • Not less than 17 years old by Sept. 1 of year starting college and no more than 23 on June 30 of that year
  • Must not have reached 27th birthday by June 30 of year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated
  • Applicants with prior military service may be eligible for age adjustments for amount of time equal to their prior service, on month-by-month basis, for maximum of 36 months, if they will not reach 30th birthday by June 30 of year graduation and commissioning are anticipated
  • No record of felony convictions or conviction by courts-martial
  • Cannot be awaiting criminal trial or sentencing, be under any other type of military or civil restraint as a result of violation of law or regulation, or have been convicted of an offense the nature of which renders him/her unfit for commissioned service
  • Meet DON requirement concerning use of drugs or alcohol in accordance with OPNAVINST 5350.4C

Academic Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalency certificate
  • Qualifying scores on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT):
    • Navy option:
      SAT: 530 Critical Reading; 520 Math
      ACT: 22 English 21 Math
    • Marine Corps option:
      SAT: 1000 composite
      ACT: 22 composite
  • SAT/ACT Math and English / Critical Reading scores can be from two different tests to achieve qualifying scores.
  • Enrollment or acceptance for enrollment, as a full-time student, at the University of Texas at Austin or Huston Tillotson University
  • If currently enrolled in college, GPA must be a 2.5 or greater

Physical Requirements

  • Physically qualified by Navy or Marine Corps standards
  • In standards with height/weight requirements (PDF)
    • Height Requirements:
      Navy: Men 62-78" Women 60-78"
      Marine Corps:  Men 66-78" Women 58-78"
  • Partial list of disqualifying medical diagnoses:   
    • Vision not correctable to 20/20
      Substandard color vision (Does not apply for Marine Options)
      History of asthma
      Acute or chronic cardiac/pulmonary conditions
      Chronic skin disorders such as:
      Atopic dermatitis
      Ununited fractures or major joint surgery
      Seizure disorders
      Severe motion sickness susceptibility
      Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Any body piercings and tattoos will be in compliance with current Navy and Marine Corps policy.
