Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life Internship
The Plan II Honors Program and The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life have partnered to offer an undergraduate reseach internship for Plan II Honors students. The Annette Strauss Institute, an organized research unit in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, exists to cultivate informed voters and active citizens through research, education, and outreach programs focused on three key pillars: civic discovery, young people, and civil dialogue. The intern will help to support the Institute's research and outreach programming, primarily by conducting research and writing reports.
The Undergraduate Research Intern position is for the full academic year both fall and spring semesters, during which time the intern will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week. The intern is not elibible for benefits but will be compensated $1500 each semester, $3000 for the year. Students must be enrolled in at least twelve* hours of course credit during the fall and spring semesters and be able to work in the U.S. without restrictions in order to be eligible to receive the stipend. Funding is provided by both Plan II and The Annette Strauss Institute. Note: Continuation of the appointment for spring is contingent upon successful evaluation by the internship supervisor.
Reseach - Assist the Institute director and post-doctoral fellow with research related to the Texas Media & Society Survey including analyzing survey results, writing of survey reports, and promotion of main survey findings. Assist the Institute director and director of public engagement with research projects that support core educational outreach activities and our mission of deepening our understanding of civic engagement.
Event Assistance - Interns will also be invited to participate in Institute programming. Occasionally assist the director and program staff with planning and preparation for civic engagement outreach events, as needed and directed.
- Full-time, Plan II student in good standing
- Strong basic research skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including writing to deadline and for a variety of audiences.
- An articulated belief in the Strauss Institute mission and an interest in civic life.
- Personable, well-organized, resourceful, mature, reliable and hardworking team player.
- Previous work in an educational, political, or non-profit setting is a plus.
Academic Credit: Students are not required to earn credit but if they wish to may do so through the internship courses offered by Liberal Arts Career Services.

*Students in their graduating semester may be registered for six (6) hours of coursework. If you believe you will be eligible to take 6 credit hours during the spring 2018 semester, please plan to discuss this option further with Katie O'Donnell, Plan II Academic Advisor, before applying.
