The Liberal Arts fall undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 6 p.m.  The Frank Erwin Center is located at 1701 Red River Street.

Tickets are not required for the ceremony.  Guest seating will open at 5 p.m.  Commencement normally lasts approximately two hours.

What do I need to know about the day of commencement?

Please arrive at the Lone Star Room in the Frank Erwin Center at 5 p.m. to check in with a liberal arts staff member and obtain a name card (which will be read as you cross the stage).  Enter the Erwin Center through the Red River Street entrance.  Do not bring any valuables that you cannot carry with you at all times, as you will not be able to leave anything in the preparation room.  A professional photographer will take your picture as you cross the stage.  Information on ordering photographs will be included in the commencement program.

What do I need to wear to the ceremony?

Academic regalia (cap and gown) are required for the liberal arts ceremony, and may be purchased from the University Co-Op.  Cap tassels and stoles for the College of Liberal Arts undergraduate degree candidates are white.  More information about regalia can be found on the Co-Op’s Web site.  Click on “Graduation.”

The University Co-op will open the Graduation Department on Wed., Oct. 7.

Do I need to do anything before commencement?

All fall undergraduate degree candidates must meet their degree requirements and apply to graduate by Oct. 21, 2009. Participation in the College of Liberal Arts commencement ceremony does not constitute graduation from The University of Texas at Austin.

To apply to graduate go to http:www.utexas.edu/cola/student-affairs/Academic-Planning/Graduation/Application.php. Click on “Graduation Application” starting Sept. 14, 2009.

Complete liberal arts commencement information will be mailed to you after the fall graduation application deadline has passed.

Sept. 14:  First day to apply to graduate
Oct. 7:  University Co-op Graduation Department opens
Oct. 21:  Last day to apply to graduate
Dec. 5:  Liberal Arts commencement ceremony, 6 p.m., Frank Erwin Center

What if I have a guest needing special services?

Guests with mobility issues should enter the Frank Erwin Center on the Red River Street side of the building.  Ushers will be at these doors to help guests to the elevator and seating.  One person can enter the Erwin Center with the guest with mobility issues.  Cell phones will work in the Erwin Center, so the person parking the car will be able to contact their family/friends.

Guests with hearing impairments should sit in Section 48.  Sign language interpreting services will be available in this section.

The University Co-op offers invitations, announcements and academic regalia online at www.universitycoop.com or at the following two locations: the Graduation Department in the Co-op Outlet at 2304 Guadalupe (800-255-1896, option 7) or the Co-op East at 2902 Medical Arts (512-472-6156).

Invitations should be mailed in time to arrive 2 weeks before the ceremony. Announcements may be mailed at any time. Announcement and invitation orders take 2-5 business days to process.

Undergraduate regalia consists of a gown, mortar board, tassel and stole in the color of your college or school. The deadline for undergraduate candidates to purchase regalia is FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27.
