Biography


Catherine Cubbin is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Social Work, a Faculty Research Associate at the Population Research Center, and a Faculty Associate at the Center for Women's and Gender Studies.  Dr. Cubbin received her PhD in Health and Social Policy from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in 1998.  She was trained as a CDC pre-doctoral fellow at the National Center for Health Statistics and as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.  Dr. Cubbin’s research focuses on using epidemiological methods to better understand social inequalities in health for the purpose of informing policy.  From 2001-2006, she was an NIH Health Disparities Scholar, and since 1997, she has been a coordinating committee member of the Spirit of 1848, a caucus of the American Public Health Association, which focuses on the intersection between public health and social justice.  She was named as a Champion of Diversity by UCSF and was a recipient of a Diversity Mentoring Fellowship award, given by the Graduate School at UT Austin on a competitive basis to promote diversity among the graduate student body. She is also an Associate Editor for Health & Place and a grant reviewer for the American Cancer Society.
