There will be a poetry reading by Mary Jo Bang, translator of Dante’s Inferno, and winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. The reading will take place in the Joynes Reading Room, located on the east side of the Carothers Residence Hall at 2501 Whitis Avenue on the University of Texas at Austin Campus
Mixing philosophical or “post-modern” concerns with chiseled, formal control, Bang’s work has been frequently cast as a pioneering example of “hybrid” poetry. Her poetry has been praised for its linguistic energy, subtle imagery and innovative technique. She is a professor in the Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis.
Free and open to the public. No RSVP is required.
