Dr. Daniel Pratt of Ohio State University will present a talk entitled:

Against Everything (Proti vsemu): Punk Rock, Dissidence, and Filip Topol's Psi vojaci

Psí vojaci were one of the preeminent punk rock bands of the 1980s, eventually becoming a staple at Junior Klub na Chmelnici. The frontman Filip from the famous Topol family was an avowed anti-Communist, and he has been read first and foremost as a dissident ever since he became the youngest signatory of Charter 77 at age 13. However, against the expectation of diminished popularity after the fall of Communism, the fate of many dissident groups, Psí vojáci became all the more popular, despite their rather dark, antisocial lyrics. This popularity points to a mode of dissent that is not contained within a single state structure, but rather protests against everything.
