The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, the Hispanic Graduate Business Association at The University of Texas at Austin, and the Austin Chilean community are hosting a special benefit event, “With Chile in the Heart,” for the victims of the earthquake in Chile on March 6, 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Esquina Tango Cultural Society of Austin.
To support the victims of Chile’s earthquake, the fundraiser will feature live music, Chilean food and special guests. Community members will be invited to participate in an open-microphone to share their thoughts, ideas and stories about the earthquake in Chile.
“Like in 1973 when the eyes of the world were following with sorrow the incidents in Chile, the international community once again is moved by the tragedy affecting millions of Chileans,” says Paloma Diaz, senior program coordinator at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies. “We would like to invite all of you who in these moments have Chile in your hearts to join us in solidarity with this country.”
Refreshments include chilenas, sopapillas, empanadas and various Chilean dishes. Guests are encouraged to bring a $10 donation and their own beverages.
