Each year since 2005, Microsoft Research has recognized innovative, promising new faculty members from a number of research institutions to join the ranks for Microsoft Research Faculty Fellows. This program now encompasses nearly 30 academic researchers whose exceptional talent for research and innovation identify them as emerging leaders in their fields. The selected professors are exploring breakthrough, high-impact research that has the potential to help solve some of today’s most challenging societal problems.
Emphasis is placed on nominations from departments working on computing research areas and on the areas that involve the innovative application of computing.
Nominees must hold a tenure-track faculty position, and may be no more than six years from the completion of their most recent PhD, ScD, or MD. Nominees must be new faculty members in the first, second, or third year of their first faculty appointment.
