Dr. Virginia Garrard-Burnett

During the Seminary of the Southwest’s annual Blandy Lecture on September 27 and 28, the institution honored Dr. Virginia Garrard-Burnett. The Seminary faculty presented Dr. Garrard-Burnett with the Durstan R McDonald Teaching Award. The award was established upon the retirement of Dean Emeritus Durstan R McDonald (2002), and recognizes exceptional teaching in the spirit of the award's namesake.

A faculty member of the University of Texas at Austin since 1990, Dr. Garrard-Burnett is a professor in the departments of History and Religious Studies, as well as a faculty affiliate of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS). In May of this year, Dr. Garrard Burnett was chosen as the new director of LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections.

Congratulations Dr. Garrard-Burnett!
