The Greening of Ukraine
Austin Welcomes Delegation of Young Ukrainian Environmental Leaders
Thu, June 7, 2012 | The University of Texas, Parlin Hall, Room 301, Austin, TX 78701
Austin, TX – Five prominent environmental leaders from organizations across Ukraine will speak on the UT Campus about their ecology work and contemporary life in Ukraine. The group is visiting Austin for one week and is sponsored by the Open World Program of the U.S. Congress (http://www.openworld.gov <http://www.openworld.gov/> ). The talk is in conjunction with UT’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.
While in Austin, June 2-10, 2012, the delegates will meet with their environmental NGO counterparts, such as Texas Campaign for the Environment, Keep Austin Beautiful and Ecology Action, to address sustainable development, alternative energy and environmental youth programs, as well as with government agencies and representatives to learn how they work with constituents and organizations on environmental causes.
The delegates are from cities and town across southern and eastern Ukraine – Dnipropetrovs’k, Kherson, Kostyantynivka, Zaporizhzhya, and Odessa – and work with local environmental organizations that focus on issues such as energy efficiency, alternative energy, ecotourism, environmental youth activities, recycling, wildlife preservation, clean water and pollution prevention.
The delegation is coordinated by the Berkeley-based Center for Safe Energy (CSE), a project of the Earth Island Institute. They are sponsored by the Open World Leadership Program, the only international exchange program funded by the U.S. legislative branch of government.
The delegates are available for interviews. For more information, please contact CSE Austin-based program manager, Tamara Kowalski, at (510) 520-8434.
