The Department of Sociology invites you to a talk by Norman Long on Actors, Interfaces, and Development Practice. This will be a general overview of actor and interface approaches to development, illustrated with Chinese and Latin American case studies.

Dr. Norman Long is Professor Emeritus, Sociology of Rural Development, Wageningen. The Netherlands, Adjunct Professor of Development Studies, China Agricultural Univesity, Beijing, China and Honorary Professorial Fellow, White Rose East Asia Centre, University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He is the author and co-author of numerous publications on development, including Development Sociology: actor perspectives (2001), Anthropology, Development and Modernities (2000) and Battlefields of Knowledge, the interlocking of theory and practice in social research and development (1992).

There will be a reception with drinks and food following the talk and discussion at 5pm.
