Julie Skalamera Olson

Julie is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology and a graduate student trainee in the Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Julie is a medical sociologist whose research agenda is broadly organized around understanding the emergence of population health disparities during adolescence and the transition to adulthood. More specifically, her research focuses on understanding how adolescent social lives matter for long-term health and well-being, how health behaviors cluster among U.S. young adults, and how social, behavioral, and biological determinants of health combine to influence health across the life course.

Julie received her B.A. in Sociology and Pre-Medical Studies from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. She worked in clinical research before entering graduate school in 2012.
