Sociology Graduate Students Win Grants, Fellowships, Awards, and Distinctions

Congratulations to Sociology graduate students for their recent awards and honors:

Caitlin Carroll has won a fieldwork grant from the Swedish Excellence endowment and a Foreign Language Acquisition Scholarship (FLAS) to study advanced Swedish at University of Wisconsin, both of which will support her dissertation work on sexual violence in Sweden.

Kevin Dahagi has won the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for his work on race, crime, mistrust, and police reporting.

Michael Garcia received an honorable mention for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

Maricarmen Hernandez has received a Fulbright Student Grant, International Research Scholarship (and Education Fee Scholarship), and the E.D. Farmer International Fellowship.

Karen Lee received an honorable mention for the Ford Foundation Fellowship.

Emily Paine has been named Scholar in Residence at CLAGS: Center for LGBTQ Studies and has preliminary word about receiving the NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant.

Last but not least, the 2017 winner of The Norval Glenn Prize is Chelsea Smith, for her paper "Changes in Mothers’ Co-Residential Partners and Children’s Risk of Maltreatment." Beth Cozzolino also received an honorable mention for her paper "Flat Broke without Children: Policing Nonresident Parents in Child Support Court."
