Liberal Arts Joint Commencement

Information for Students


Please note that the College held its last fall commencement ceremony in 2016. Starting in 2017, the College will hold commencement ceremonies each May to honor the graduates and candidates of the entire academic year (past fall, current spring, and future summer).

Participation in the College of Liberal Arts commencement ceremony does not constitute graduation from The University of Texas at Austin. Complete Liberal Arts commencement information will be emailed to each student.

Deadlines

Currently enrolled students can apply to graduate starting February 2, 2017. All undergraduate degree candidates must apply to graduate by April 3, 2017. Participation in the College of Liberal Arts commencement ceremony does not constitute graduation from The University of Texas at Austin. A full list of important deadlines is listed on the Application page.

Ceremony Recognition

During the Liberal Arts ceremony, students will walk across the stage and have their name and major read.

Regalia

Academic regalia (cap and gown) are required for all ceremonies, and may be purchased from the University Co-op. Cap tassels and stoles for the College of Liberal Arts are white. The deadline to order regalia is May 14, 2017. Students should wear business casual attire underneath their regalia. Only academic related additions to the regalia will be allowed (i.e. Honor Cords, Honor Society sashes, etc.)

Student Arrival

Enter the Erwin Center through the Red River Street (west) entrance. Please arrive at the Lone Star Room in the Erwin Center at 10:30 a.m. to check in with a Liberal Arts staff member and obtain a name card (which will be read as you cross the stage).

During the Ceremony

Do not bring any valuables that you cannot carry with you at all times, as you will not be able to leave anything in the preparation room. A professional photographer will take your picture as you cross the stage. Information on ordering photographs will be included in the commencement program. Air horns are not allowed in the Erwin Center. Ushers will check for and confiscate air horns.

Parking and Directions

Information regarding parking and directions can be found on the University Events website, and the Parking and Transportation Services website. Please note that due to construction, parking and access to the Frank Erwin Center will be affected. 

Services For Students With Disabilities

Special services are available to accommodate the needs of degree candidates with disabilities who will be participating in commencement activities. Degree candidates who require accommodations due to a disability are asked to contact Crystal McCallon at 512-232-2973 at least five days before the ceremony.
