Notes on Sugar
Notes on Sugar

Campos-Pons has provoked and probed questions of race, gender, class, memory, and national and cultural identities within African and Latin American Diasporic communities. By featuring and critically engaging works that relate to Campos-Pons’s memories and experiences of sugar production in her hometown of Matanzas, Cuba—and its transatlantic slave trade roots—these exhibitions seek to highlight the impact of unchecked capitalism and human exploitation in the contemporary world. As a collective dedicated to supporting feminist artists of color, this exhibition is our first in what we hope to be a long line of projects dedicated to ending gender and racial discrimination in the arts.
