Conference Registration Payment

A mandatory non-refundable registration fee of $150 for scholars and $100 for graduate students (with proven identification) must be paid immediately upon the acceptance of the abstract. This conference fee includes admission to the panels, workshops, and special events, as well as transportation to and from the conference from the hotel, breakfast for three days, dinner on Friday night, lunch on Saturday, and a banquet on Saturday evening.

We currently offer three ways to submit your registration payment.

1. TXShop page

The easiest and most efficient way to make a payment is throught the TXShop page. In order to submit an online payment, you must have a VISA or MasterCard. If you are a graduate student, please contact Martha Gonzalez for the discount code.You will need to email her a valid university ID.

2. Checks or Money Orders

Checks or money orders must have your full name as it appears on the abstract. Additionally, please write "2016 Africa Conference" on the method of payment. Money Orders and checks must be made out to "The University of Texas at Austin, History Department" and mailed to:

Please email the details of your payment once you have mailed your check.

Please note that Money Orders often require a transaction fee. You must pay this charge in addition to the registration fee in order to submit the correct payment amount to the University of Texas. 

3. Direct Bank transfer 

Please contact  to request the required bank transfer information. When sending a wire payment it is very important to ensure that all bank information is copied correctly.

Include the following on the reference line: the contact person's name, phone number, and reason for payment  (Martha Gonzalez: 1-512-475-7216: 2016 Africa Conf. Registration). This is essential so we can monitor whether your funds are correctly deposited.

It may take two weeks for payment to reach the University of Texas, so please make sure to send an email to and to after you complete the wiring process so we know to expect it. Unfortunately, we cannot send out any conference related material or visa letters until the payment has been deposited into our departmental account. It is very important that you carefully submit the correct information. We are not responsible for any lost funds.

Please note that there is a $5 surcharge from the wiring agency/bank that you must cover in addition to the registration fee in order to submit the correct payment to the University of Texas. The payment, therefore, for wire transfers is $155 for scholars and $105 for graduate students.
