New Directions in Anthropology XII: Everyday Anthropology

This coming April the Anthropology Department at the University of Texas at Austin will host its 12th annual New Directions in Anthropology Conference. New Directions aims to provide an inclusive space for graduate students of all levels and upper level undergraduates. We welcome papers from all anthropological subdisciplines and various disciplines outside of anthropology to share their work while enabling opportunities for feedback and collaboration. We invite participants to join us in exploring and discussing the myriad of applications of anthropological research within and outside of academia.

This year we have chosen the theme “Everyday Anthropology”. We encourage projects and discussions about how academic anthropology intersects with the "everyday" to explore our research in the broader world. For example, discussions about activism, film, and conservation work are welcome, as well as projects from other disciplines that use anthropology frameworks or methods. However, this theme may also speak more personally to our individual journeys as we develop as researchers, and how we see anthropology in our own lives.

Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Patrick Gallager - University of Texas San Antonio Anthropology

Dr. Lina Valencia - Global Wildfire Conservation
