NATSA 2018: The 24th Annual Conference of the North American Taiwan Studies Association

The conference, Beyond An Island: Taiwan in Comparative Perspectives, focuses on broadening the scope of Taiwan studies. This year’s panels and discussions surround the topic of positioning Taiwan-related issues in a global context. Our special events feature prominent scholars including Joseph R. Allen, Brett V. Benson, Harry Harding, Syaru Shirley Lin, and Shu-mei Shih.

You can have access to the electronic versions through the following link: https://www.na-tsa.org/2018-conference-schedule

The opening event also features a screening of Le Moulin, the 2016 Golden Horse Festival Best Documentary Winner. The documentary is about the hitherto overlooked avant-guard poet society in Colonial Taiwan. The screening is open to public. The director, Ya-li Huang, will join the audience in post-screening Q&A session.

We are glad to announce that Dr. Harry Harding and Dr. Syaru Shirley Lin will be bringing their insight in decades of consulting the U.S. Asian policy making to our special event, The Rise of China and its Implications for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the U.S..

Taiwan is more relevant in global geopolitics than the scale of the island would otherwise suggest. We look forward to seeing you at the Julius Glickman Conference Center, located in the CLA building, at UT Austin from May 24th to 26th. Please refer to the registration link at: https://www.na-tsa.org/2018-tickets-registration

Sincerely, NATSA
