Biography


Z. Rubi S. Lozoya is a PhD candidate in the Department of Asian Studies. She received her BA in English and French from New Mexico State University and her MA in Comparative Literature from University of Colorado-Boulder (2013). She has studied and conducted research internationally in Manchester, Paris, Jaipur, and Mumbai. Her research interest include Indian cinemas and film cultures, world cinema, women cinema, transnational and third world feminisms, cultural studies of South Asia, and film digital distribution.

Her dissertation Cinemas of Andheri: India's Feminist Films in the Age of Netflix analyzes the effects that streaming platforms, like
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, have had on the creation and distribution of independent Hindi films made by women and about women.
