Department of Asian Studies Languages

The Department of Asian Studies offers lower- and upper-division courses in Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit, and Urdu. Lower-division classes are available in Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. Upper-division independent studies are available with departmental approval for some languages.

Hindi and Urdu are also available through the Hindi-Urdu Flagship, which is designed for students who wish to achieve advanced proficiency in Hindi and Urdu while majoring in a variety of programs, including Liberal Arts, Business, Communications, and Engineering.

Class Auditors: Any student interested in auditing a course must obtain a Class Auditor Permit from the Registrar’s office and must seek both the instructor’s approval and the Dean’s approval http://registrar.utexas.edu/students/registration/before/audit. There is an auditing charge of $20 for nonstudents. Official auditors in both lower and upper division language courses are not allowed.
