Mission Statement:

As a space for exhibition and discussion, the IDEA LAB provides a platform for artists, guest-scholars and curators, students, faculty, and the community-at-large to explore and engage with theWarfield Center’s areas of scholarship. It is a space in which aspiring and established curators can be nurtured, supported, and mentored, in an environment of professionalism, the IDEA LAB offers unique opportunities for the realization of curatorial projects. The IDEA LAB provides an intimate setting where curated exhibitions encourage discourse, promote critical thought, and challenge the status quo.


The IDEA LAB is housed in the Gordon-White Building, home to Black and Latino/ a Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Flexing as a gallery, think-tank and meeting room, the IDEA LAB grew out the Warfield Center and the community at large’s need to engage in critical exchange. Surrounded by notable works by artists such as Michael Ray Charles, Deborah Roberts and Wura-Natasha Ogunji, the IDEA LAB honors the significance of creative expression as it relates to social justice.
