Activist Scholarship at the Tejas Global Crossroads

Abriendo Brecha V:
Activist Scholarship at the Tejas Global Crossroads

Thu, February 21, 2008 | San Jacinto Conference Center, The University of Texas at Austin

Abriendo Brecha is an annual conference on activist scholarship held at the University of Texas at Austin. This year, as Abriendo Brecha transitions to a more permanent home within the newly-formed Office for Thematic Issues and Community Engagement, we are focusing on work that brings together artists, community activists, and professional scholars who work on and in Tejas. The conference will explore these activists' multilevel work to transform society toward freedom and social justice. Three outstanding scholar-activists from around the US have been invited to share their experiences in their own communities and give their perspectives on our collective work here in Tejas. Our goal is to engage in a series of discussions around the possibility of building a vibrant collaborative community supporting insurgent activism, research, performance and art inside and outside of the academy.
