Lectures on Art in the Black Diaspora: Coming Home. Moving Back to the South

Event: The Department of Art and Art History, the John Warfield Center for African and African American Studies, and College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin present a series of visits by Artists and Scholars from the contemporary art world. The series will run from September through November with presentations by Dr. Kobena Mercer , Middlesex University, London; Renee Cox, Photographer; and Beverly McIver, Painter.

Beverly McIver is the Suntrust Endowed Professor of Art at North Carolina Central University. Her work is widely acknowledged in contemporary art circles for its examinations of racial, gender, and social issues. She has received numerous grants and awards including Anonymous Was A Woman Foundation grant, John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, Radcliffe Institute Fellowship at Harvard University, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and Creative Capital grant. In addition to being featured in numerous private collections, her work is included in collections at the Baltimore Museum of Art, North Carolina
