Dr. Masango Chery Speaks on

On Monday, December 3rd, Dr. Tshepo Masango Chery, one of our Postdoctoral Fellows, gave a stimulating lecture on “colored” identity in late nineteenth century South Africa. The lecture, which comprises part of her book manuscript in progress, explored the complexities of “colored” identification by emphasizing the different migratory streams (from the Atlantic and Indian Ocean) that informed the creation of the population defined by the South African government as “colored.” Dr. Chery will join the African and African Diaspora Studies Department in the Fall of 2013.
