Clark Scholar Receives Scholarship for his Research

Congratulations to Clark Scholar Mark Werner on being awarded an Undergraduate Research Award in the amount of $1,000 to support his research project on the Australian Senate! Werner is the Clark Scholar for 2019-20. He is a senior double majoring in Government and Economics. Werner joined the Clark Center as a Research Intern in 2018 after taking an Australian Society and Politics course taught by Dr. Rhonda Evans.

Using legislative datasets from the Australian Policy Agendas Project, Werner is examining whether the ideological composition of the Australian Senate affects the governing parties’ abilities to implement their legislative agendas. His project will shed new light on how political parties interact and compromise over various policy issues in Australia as well as how minor parties influence the legislative process. Sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts, Undergraduate Research Awards provide up to $1,000 in support for specific scholarly research projects. Werner will present the findings of his research in April 2020 during Undergraduate Research Week, which is hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research.

Does this article look familiar? That’s because this semester Werner also received an Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the Office of the Vice President for Research!
