Wed, February 24, 2010 | Fine Arts Library, FAL 4.104

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

This talk will be a brief summary of the book Dr. Tim Moore has recently completed on the nature and role of music in the plays of Plautus and Terence, who wrote comedies in the second century BCE.

Among the items discussed will be the accompaniment (the tibia), the juxtaposition of sung and spoken passages, the role of dance, and what the text of the plays can tell us about rhythmical variation in the actors' singing.
