CMAS PláticArte

Tue, April 7, 2009 | Texas Union, Chicano Culture Room (4.206)

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Jesse Herrera will discuss the photographic documentation of a religious ritual common to Spain and Mexico. The images are a comparison of the differences and parallels in these rituals and how the respective populations celebrate them. For Herrera, photographing the cofradias was professionally satisfying, but more importantly, they allowed him to demystify and understand a culture seeped in religious tradition and professions of faith.

This CMAS PlaticArte is based on the photo exhibit "Semana Santa" on display at the Center for Mexican American Studies.
