Deadline Extended for the Student Poster Art Scholarship
A collection of our winning posters.

We've extended the deadline for the annual Sam Z. Coronado Student Poster Art Scholarship Contest. Submit your artwork by November 12.

Theme

As the Center for Mexican American Studies begins its 49th year at The University of Texas at Austin, we’re fortunate to experience the continued growth of the field of Latino Studies on our campus. For this year’s Sam Z. Coronado Student Poster Art Scholarship Contest, we want the theme to represent this growth.

In previous years, we’ve selected specific themes like “Tierra” or “Sueños” to help guide you, but this year, we’re looking for artwork that captures a bigger, broader picture of contemporary Latino Studies. In everything we do, we’re constantly trying to answer what it means to be Latinx and living in the United States today. The three units that comprise Latino Studies at UT Austin—the Mexican American and Latina/o Studies department, the Center for Mexican American Studies, and the Latino Research Initiative—work together and separately to explore and shape the public’s understanding of the Latinx experience. But with this contest, we want to understand what Latino Studies looks like to you. Is it abstract shapes and color? Is it lush or spare? Is it faces or is it a place? Is it political or poetic? Do you see it every day or did you see it in your dreams? Show us so that we may see ourselves more clearly.

Award

Scholarship awards will be granted—regardless of citizenship or documented status—in the amounts of:

$1000 for First Prize

$750 for Second Prize

$500 for Third Prize

The winning entry will have a limited edition of 20 prints produced for permanent display in the Latino Studies offices in the Gordon-White Building. The First Prize winner will receive 10 prints or their work.
