Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship Profile (2017–18)

Rebeca L. Hey-Colón, PhD is the recipient of the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies for the 2017–2018 academic year.

Dr. Rebeca L. Hey-Colón is Assistant Professor of Spanish at Colby College, where she teaches Caribbean and Latinx Studies. She holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Haverford College and a Ph.D. in Romance Languages from Harvard University. Hey-Colón's research establishes connections between the Caribbean diaspora, Chicanx communities, and broader Latinx Studies by analyzing the presence of water. Her current book project, Rippling Borders in Latina Literature, explores the relationship between water, borders, bodies, and spirituality in Chicana and Caribbean Latina authors. Her work is forthcoming in Latino StudiesSmall Axe, and the edited collection The Image of the River in Latin/o American Literature. 

Dr. Hey-Colón will present her talk, titled, “The Weight of Water: Spirituality on the Border” at the Fall 2017 Jovita González Memorial Lectures in the Arts and Humanities on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
