Professor Lorraine Pangle will be leading a Valentine's Day discussion of Epictetus' Enchiridion. Epictetus suggests that our own happiness is something that depends wholly on ourselves, that we can obtain regardless of our circumstances. The Enchiridion is a handbook for achieving that kind of happiness.

We’ll try to understand what Epictetus understands happiness to be, and whether it makes sense to regard is as being so independent of any external good.
