Book Club: Leo Strauss, "What is Political Philosophy?"

Thu, March 7, 2019 | WAG 403B

4:00 PM

This essay, by the 20th Century German-Jewish philosopher Leo Strauss, asks what political philosophy is, and considers its place in philosophy as a whole. It's both an exceptionally useful statement on the chief questions of political philosophy generally, and a strong defense of reading and returning to the classics.

The discussion will be led by Government Department graduate student Ian Myers, and his assistant, Avery Williams.

Find the reading here in a shorter version, or here in its complete form. It's somewhat long, but our discussion will focus primarily on the first part.

Please note that the book club will take place an hour earlier than usual!
