This is a sequel to last week’s Metaphysics book club, though you can attend even if you didn’t attend the first group. We’ll be discussing Aristotle’s treatment of intellect in Book III of On the Soul. It is one of the most difficult, most disputed, and most important discussions in all of Aristotle’s work. It forces readers to grapple with the question of how, and whether, knowledge is possible for human beings: in what way do we have access to anything that we can understand?

Dr. Dempsey will be leading the discussion. We’ll look at On the Soul, Book III, chapter 3-8, but especially chapters 4-5. You can find an acceptable translation here.
