Dr. Erik Dempsey, Lecturer and Assistant Director for the Jefferson Center, was recently the recipient of an Eyes of Texas Excellence Award. The Eyes of Texas is "an anonymous campus organization dedicated to unselfish devotion to the University." Each semester, they recognize ten UT administrators, faculty, or staff members for their service.

The Eyes of Texas said the following about Dr. Dempsey's contributions to the UT community:

"Thank you so much for your true care and genuine passion for your students and the subjects you teach. Your dedication to the world of philosophical ideas, government, and religion is obvious and a special gift that you so openly bestow upon your students every day in the classroom. Your gentle yet authoritative presence encourages students to grow by exploring different avenues and inquisitively seeking after the truth. We also deeply appreciate your role as Assistant Director of the Jefferson Scholars Program. Overall, the time, energy, and love you pour into the University of Texas and its students make a big difference. For this and much more, the Eyes of Texas thank you."
